Speed dating is a formalized matchmaking process or dating system whose purpose is to encourage people to meet a large number of new people. The first speed-dating event took place at Pete’s CafĂ© in Beverly Hills in late 1998.
Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a series of short "dates", usually lasting from 3 to 8 minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell or clinks a glass to signal the participants to move on to the next date. At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties. Contact information cannot be traded during the initial meeting, in order to reduce pressure to accept or reject a suitor to his or her face.

Take Control of Your Life, Do What You Want to Do With These Simple Time Management Strategies!

Time is money! Yet a lot of people seem to waste their time, and then wonder why they are not as successful as some other people. You literally have more potential than you could possibly use in 100 lifetimes. Once you learn to master these few simple time management strategies, you can take control of your life literally discipline yourself into financial freedom.

1. Plan ahead- A lot of people fill their days with things that are not going to help their financial future. Right before you go to bed each night make sure that you make a list of all the things that you need to do the next day. Then, take that list and organize it so that the things that will have the greatest impact on your future are at the top while all other things migrate to the bottom.

When you wake up, do the things at the top first! While there may not be enough time in a day to accomplish everything, by accomplishing the most important things first you set yourself on the fast track to success. In making this list you will soon see that some of the things that you thought were important really are not as important as you thought.

2. Always work from a list- Schedule everything that you do in your day. Eat, nap, read, whatever you are going to do for that day give it a time and stick to your schedule. If something new comes up that has to be done, just simply add it to your schedule. You will be amazed at how much you can get done when you plan out your day ahead of time.

3.Break large tasks down into smaller ones. As a human being you get great satisfaction out of completing a task. Your body releases endorphins, and you can literally become addicted to success. The best way to work on and grow this habit is to break down large tasks into smaller ones with time limits. Assemble everything that you will need for that task and work at it (without distractions) until the task is 100% complete.

With these time management strategies you will soon see that you have plenty of time to do the things that you really want to do that you never had time to do before. The law of the six "p's" says "proper prior planning prevents poor performance."

The Power of Affirmations

Affirmations are positive statements that describe a desired situation, and which are repeated many times, in order to impress the subconscious mind and trigger it into positive action. In order to ensure the effectiveness of the affirmations, they have to be repeated with attention, conviction, interest and desire.

Start the Year with Energy and Enthusiasm

Optimism, passion, energy are just a few of the key fundamental success factors we need to personally harness as, when you think about it - it's energy and enthusiasm that keeps us all going – that sense of purpose that motors us on. Think back to how you feel when you’re not 100%. So, if optimism is infectious – let’s spread it. And to keep ourselves keen on spreading it – let’s ensure our energy and enthusiasm levels are maintained too.

Did you know...?

The summer solstice, also known as ‘the longest day’ has the most hours of daylight and shortest night. In the Northern Hemisphere it always occurs in mid-June, while in the Southern Hemisphere it occurs in December.

In England, people gather at the mystical and ancient Stonehenge (pictured above) to welcome in the sunrise.

Summer Idioms

Idioms are everywhere. You will find them in newspapers, books, magazines, on the radio, on the television, in everyday conversation and at work. Being able to master idioms is almost essential if you want your English to sound more native-like and less awkward. Mastering those tricky idioms will also help you better understand native English speakers (particularly Americans).

Definition:
A set expression of two or more words that means something other than the literal meanings of its individual words. Adjective: idiomatic.

Here are three natural English expressions (idioms) using the words sun, shine and summer.

To make hay while the sun shines
To do something right away while the situation or conditions are right, with no delay.

‘It’s stopped raining, so I can go out and wash the car. Better make hay while the sun shines.’

A place in the sun
A job or situation which makes you happy and gives you everything you need and want.

‘Joey has got a new job as an illustrator. He loves it! He’s finally found his place in the sun.’

To think the sun shines out of someone's backside
(very casual/not polite)
To love someone so much that you think they are perfect. This has a negative image as we usually use it when someone loves another person too much and forgets their faults.

‘Tim thinks the sun shines out of his girlfriend’s backside! He’s always saying how great she is.’

A knight in shining armour
Someone who helps you when you really need help; a kind of ‘hero’.

‘I couldn’t get my car started and just when I thought I would be late for work, Trevor passed by and gave me a lift. He’s my knight in shining armour!’

Come rain or shine (or 'whatever the weather')

To say you will do something regardless of the situation, or how difficult it might be. We use it to show we are determined to do something.

‘I go running twice a week, come rain or shine.’

To take a shine to someone
To be attracted to someone or to like them. Usually with new people we meet.

‘It looks like Paula has taken a shine to the new guy in accounts.’

An Indian summer
Warm sunny weather in autumn, when it would usually be colder.

‘Many places in Europe are now enjoying an Indian summer in September.’
